AN EXUBERANT COMEDY about four likely lasses from the Hull fish docks on a day trip to the races, from the author of Be My Baby. Work, love and life are just one long , hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome-Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. However their fortunes are about to change when Linda finds tickets to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot, the year it relocated to York. Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter. if their luck holds they could hit the jackpot and more besides……

IN 1925, THE DUKE OF YORK is a stammerer and fears public speaking. His wife, Elizabeth, seeks the treatment of speech therapist, Lionel Logue, but Bertie soon gives up. In the years that follow the Duke of York is forced to assume the throne as King George VI, due to the abdication of his older brother. Immediately afterward Britain declares war and the new ruler needs to make a speech to the country. Accepting his help, at last, Lionel helps the king using his unorthordox techniques…

HAPPY AS A SANDBAG was first performed in May 1972 and focuses on the warmth, courage and spirit shown by the British people coping with WWII on the home front. Dealing with rationing, separation of families and loss of loved ones, confirming how music and songs got people through the darkest days. Radio was central to people’s lives – dominated by war reports but also sharing the stars and music of the time. So come along and join in with all of those wonderful inspirational people – The Andrews Sisters, Rob Wilton, Winston Churchill, Tommy Handley and many, many more. Don’t forget your flags….!
